You know... When I read the title (excluding the fanfic part), it almost gave heart attack. Though it could've been a mod post and I was all "WHAAAAAAA? OAO".

Right.. -Clicks the link to read-

I was shocked when I read the news

But then I think, if all couples need a "special relationship" to exist, there won't be any couple in Hetalia.

And this is more of a government's decision than the nation's decision. It probably cannot count as a "break up". (Maybe Arthur and Alfred do not agree with the news or something)

Sounds like I am just trying to justify the whole thing *sob*

Btw, it is a good fanfiction though. Want to hug both Arthur and Alfred now T_T

This seems to be turning into quiet the discussion.
Anyway.

Special relationship between UK and US is over, MPs say

Pfft. The nations still love each other.

Again, this is the UK trying to ease away from "US lapdog" backlash from the recent years. It can't be helped, IMHO.

And honestly? This isn't the first time peeps are saying the Special Relationship is over. It's been years now... am actually developing an immunity to the announcement.

When it does end, I'll still ship them regardless.

Um, this has been coming for a long while and there have been many articles about the exact same thing, so yeah, I don't see why it's so shocking? ._. It's not like they officially declared that their unique relationship is over, it's just a bunch of MPs saying they don't want to call it "special" anymore for a variety of reasons. I don't think there's any reason for panicking and thinking the ship has sunk or that they "broke up" or something. The relationship is still there, it has always been fluid and has always had its ups and downs throughout history. Imagine, if you please, that right now they're having one of the "down" periods. Check back in ~30-40 years and there's a good chance that you'll see the US and the UK (if it will still be around as the UK) as BFFs again.

Meanwhile you have Hetalia canon and Hetalia characters that can be interpreted in about a million and one ways. I mean, the "America" and "England" we're talking about here are characters in a manga, not the actual countries. If you want to take RL as an exclusive basis for shipping them that's fine, but these sort of things happen all the time IRL and they don't really mean a lot in the long run, because by nature all countries are selfish and are looking out for their own interests.

Haha, was it intended for the fanfic post to end up a discussion post for the article?

Whaaa, I knew I'd get sad from the fic, but I read it anyway. Poor Al. ||orz. I can't find it in me to be on Art's side, even though Al is clearly not taking it LIKE A MAN, ffff. This is me trying not to ignore the fact that this is a fic post, but am obviously distracted by the other obvious discussion.

As far as the article goes, ehh. I agree with Kuromitsu completely.

Anyway, the US and UK have a strong history and other cultural connections, so I doubt it's the end of all things US-UK as far as real life goes.

Regardless, this is fandom, that's real deal. Although a bit saddening (even after they've said it a billion and one times how they've broken up and then... haven't.) I'll still ship Alfred/Arthur like a burning. 8D;;

I call for some curing Al/Art fluff!
Brb, trying to write. And failing. .__.

I'm.. just reading the article and I have TEARS IN MY EYES. this is bloody ridiculous..to cry over NEWS..and I am British and should have the best interest of the country on mind but.. THIS IS TOO CRUEL. Much too cruel and my heart is breaking right now.... On the BBC website there was also an older article and I found this quote there:

Britain has declined from being the master, to being a rival, to being a partner and now to being perhaps simply useful.

....this just really, really hurts. God, that's what obsession with a pairing does to you.

DON'T WORRY GUYS, REALLY.

IT'S NOT OFFICIAL POLICY.

Just a recommendation. Really.

Calm down.

XD

...urgh. I'm horribly reminded of Love Actually right now..

Yeah, I mean it is upsetting, but like the others have said, people have been posting articles about the special relationship being over for years now, but it's not going to simply "end", you know? Think of it this way, every marriage starts out strong, but everyone has their breaking points. However, it's not like they'd get "divorced". The UK just wants to be listened to more.

GOD DAMMI-

PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE.
THERE IS STILL A SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP. >:c
It isn't even official.
Besides, BBC has a bad habit of one month they'll be like, uber USUK shippers. Then the next, it'll be like 'lol no breakup tiem :D' Honestly, all this article is saying is that Iggy is tired of being on the bottom. SHOT

Besides, a Foreign Office spokeswoman said ... "It doesn't really matter whether someone calls it 'the special relationship' or not ... What matters is that the UK's relationship with the US is unique ... "

I wouldn't be too worried about this.
Not a whole lot that actually affects the countries affects our dear boys in turn. And unless Hiramuya decides to kill us all and do his own breakup strip of their relationship, then they're totally still together. <3

RIGHT, I THINK EVERYBODY NEEDS A HUG.

This is just MP's opinions- not official. Seriously everyone, the BBC do this all the time .

And even if it did come to an end, look at Austria and Hungary in canon: their union/marriage ended and yet they still appear to be in love and dating? Look guys, politics/unions/alliances come and go, but the human feelings that characters have do not. Our boys are gonna be fine ;)

Calm down people

In case no one noticed, this has only been reported by the bbc, if this was really a full split, AMerican newspaper would report about it too. As a student of international affairs (yes that is what my major is called) in DC I can safely say one of my professors would have mentioned it since it is a huge deal if there was a split between the US and the UK and this is not even fandom wise but in real life

From: [identity profile] haro.livejournal.com

Ohgod seriously people. Two months ago they were 'married' according to BBC news. It's just a cycle. They've been doing it forever with UK-US relations; one month an article like this, the next one about how they are stronger than ever, rinse, repeat. This is nothing new.

IT IS ABOUT FUCKING TIME, ENGLAND. WAY TO FINALLY GROW SOME BALLS THERE.

Seriously, I ship USUK like crazy, but in reality? It's a little less like BFF tsunderes sekritly in rabu rabu and more like George McFly constantly being forced to do Biff's homework while Biff keeps trying to rape his girlfriend (that would be you, Canada). WHERE IS MARTY, I ASK YOU.
