I think it just seems so because the UK is more vocal about these things. US diplomacy has been pretty cold and brusque for a while and the way I see it the US has always paid less attention to the special relationship with Britain thing than vice versa. Which makes sense for both of them, seeing their positions and policies. But yeah, it's been way worse and even if it gets even worse from now on it doesn't really mean anything because eventually it's going to get better again (unless something really extreme happens to Europe and/or the US).

And really, I just don't understand why RL official policy is important in the first place when it comes to shipping characters in a manga. :/ People are just so quick to jump to conclusions. Yes, it's nice to have the countries you ship have a "special relationship" IRL but that is just a phrase and doesn't really mean anything in and of itself. The relationship would've been the same and would've developed the same way even if it wasn't called "special relationship." It's just words. And they have absolutely no bearing on Hetalia as a whole.

Real life is hardly shipping basis in Hetalia, except in the loosest sense and people ship Hetalia characters based on much less than what the UK and USA have going on. The characters England and America, in my mind, are too perfect for each other to stop shipping based on this.

Exactly. :3

But yeah, this is why I decided to stop watching the main Hetalia comm on RSS for a while. :/

Haha. Considering that the US and Russia are having good relations right now doesn't help. XD

Not that the US/UK relationship is in a BAD state. I remember someone saying that a good relationship is a 'boring one', because a bad relationship is exciting one. XD

But don't worry. Some shippers may think that, but I think the other shippers wouldn't bother.

Heh, I was just listening to one of my former profs talking on the radio the other day, about current American foreign policies, and he remarked that the current US-Russian relationship was, basically, "deceptive." xD;; Ah well, anyway, I think incorporating RL stuff into shipping in Hetalia can be fun but in the end it's just a silly gag manga, so yeah. ^^;;

(Btw, as for relationships, I'm in favor of "a good relationship is not necessarily a boring one." :D)

True, true.

It's funny, because in Hetalia canon there's actually no explicit mention or even depiction of the Special Relationship, just that England is one of America's only two friends along with Japan. And yet it's established that America and England care about each other, through the years.

And Iggy is far from submissive to Alfred in the Hetalia canon.

Yeah, I'm not sure Himaruya even knows about it. And it's not like this article is going change the way they interact in canon (well, unless Himaruya reads it and decides to adapt it, or something :D), so why worry?

And yeah, England is anything but submissive. :D (Though I can see him being into D/s but that has nothing to do with politics. xD)
