Again, this is the UK trying to ease away from "US lapdog" backlash from the recent years. It can't be helped, IMHO.

And honestly? This isn't the first time peeps are saying the Special Relationship is over. It's been years now... am actually developing an immunity to the announcement.

When it does end, I'll still ship them regardless.

"This isn't the first time peeps are saying the Special Relationship is over."

Is not? (Never bothered to follow political news until recently)

Seriously. If you had a dollar for every time someone says the Special Relationship is over, the global recession may be over.

Basically, this. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/3264169.stm) It was written in 2003 so things like global power balance, etc. have changed since then, but the point is still clear. :D

Omg -laughs out hard- I remember seeing that graph before (not from the article) and how much I laughed from it.

On the grand scale of things those were relatively small incidents, though. (The war of 1812 was barely more than America getting uppity and Britain going "okay, I'll indulge you... eh, ffs I have no time for this, go bug someone else!" IIRC it was barely noticed in Britain.) It's a short little article, more for quick & fun info than any analysis.

Well, yeah. Though at the time of the 1812 war Britain was sort of very much distracted by Napoleon, so it's no wonder they viewed the war with the US as just an annoying pain in the ass.
