The word is plural and actually comes from Mírdain, which means "jewel-smiths" in Elvish. They were followers of Celebrimbor, the elf who made the Elven Rings of Power. They were also the elves who had that awful run-in with Sauron. So, in a sense, mírdan is the singular form. Back then LJ won't accept the accent so I got stuck with a usename without it. I picked it years ago because I liked the way the letters sat next to each other, orz.
