I may have another massive update either on Christmas or New Years. Please tell me if you are interested in me posting it here.Synopsis: “The Long Goodbye” chronicles the inception of Alfred F. Jones until the end of the American Revolution where he rebels against his mentor and long-time companion, Arthur. In the first half of the game, Songs of Innocence
*, Alfred and Arthur establish the colonies together by trading, battling off rivals and develop their fort. The second half of the game, Songs of Experience
*, involves two wars: one against France in the Seven Years War, and the last against Arthur himself. The characters are not mine; they are based off of Himuraya’s work in the comic strip, Hetalia, which personifies countries. “The Long Goodbye” is designed to be a humble RPG and commerce SIM.
It is important to note that the overall tone in “The Long Goodbye” is more serious than Hetalia and it takes place much earlier than the main storyline of Himuraya’s comic series.
** The name for two volumes of poems by a famous English author who lived around the same time, William Blake.
Genre: RPG, Commerce SIM
Platform: RMVX
Developers: YummyDrumsticks [writer, director, scripter], Nessiah [artist]
Main Characters:
Alfred F. Jones: the personification for the early “Americas” (later known as the United States of America). He was born from split blood of people who have lived there before him and aimlessly wandered around the wilderness. European powers compete to acquire him as their colony, and he was frightened by their fervor. In the end, he allowed Arthur to have primary ownership of him. During the Anglo-Spaniard War, Arthur forgot about Alfred and the fledgling nearly perished, but the young boy still had unconditional love for the older Nation. Out of guilt, Arthur decides to stay with the boy for a period of time and help him stand on his own.
Arthur Kirkland: the personification for the British Empire. He is a stuffy, gruff and cynical man who is bent on obtaining power—but after the Roanoke Incident during the Anglo-Spaniard Wars, which nearly killed off his little colony; he has stuck by Alfred and helped his child develop and grow. Despite his cross demeanor and fussy behavior, he cares for Alfred like none other. Throughout their adventures together, the two develop what seemed like an inseparable bond until Arthur leaves mid-late game and becomes the final enemy.
Other Characters:

Francis Bonnefoy: the personification of the French Empire. Francis is a colorful and “passionate” man who, like England, is focused on obtaining more power for himself. He frequently gets a rise out of his long time rival, Arthur, and especially enjoys inciting the “teabag” by making advances on America. Later towards the end of the game, he becomes an important ally to Alfred and provides troops to defend inland Americas just to get back at Arthur.
Matthew Williams: the personification of the Canadian territories (who later becomes Canada many years later); he is also Alfred’s brother who lives far up North. He is under the ownership of France. Unlike his twin, he is far more calm and collected. After the Seven Years War, he falls under the tutelage of Arthur.
Gilbert Beilschmidt: the personification of Prussia. With help from France, he becomes Alfred’s ally and provides him with training and important information to fend off Arthur’s well-trained and superior military force. He is extremely eccentric and swears at Alfred and his men, but is determined to rally the fledling into tip-top shape. [He is based off of “Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben,” a Prussian who served in the Continental Army during.]
Toris Laurinaitis: the personification of Lithuania. After fighting several wars in his place, he went to the Americas on his own to enlist as a volunteer in the American Revolution. [He is a nod to the Polish, Lithunian, Belarusian and American war hero Tadeusz Kościuszko. He is of mixed descent, so I was unsure which country to use to represent him, sorry Belarus/Poland!]
Antonio Carriedo: the personification of Spain. He provides support for America during the second half of the game to get back at his old rival.
Holland: He is not very interested in the idealism and cause of the American Revolution; however, he would like to make a quick buck, and supporting Alfred is the best way he can do it. He provides much useful merchandise towards the last quarter of the game.
Disclaimers
This game is not meant to be entirely accurate of history in any way, shape or form. It follows history in much more detail than Hetalia’s cover of America, but it still leaves out many elements and details for a few reasons and issues. Yes, battles are left out, foreign relations between the country are not entirely accurate by their caricature—but realize it is still an RPG that is not meant to be a documentary. A few notable historical errors, figureheads in the war are either removed or downplayed for the sake of developing Hetalia’s characters instead [Sorry Founding Fathers. Please don’t kill me. I am already going to hell for this.], changes in the facts or dramatizations are noted in-game in the glossary.
The goal of this game is to be rooted in history, but still be a story of its own. Even if the character nationalities were stripped away, it could be its own tale about two friends who fell apart over the years through a series of tragic events and rifts. There is a glossary in-game that you may access (and there will be bonuses for “completing it”) that will detail history much more accurately and note any errors.
