Sorry about the lack of a Rec Post in May, guys...awfully familiar, right? In honor of Father's day tomorrow, have this months rec post one day early!!!! Also, have some fun and rec some stuff with fatherhood as a theme, whether it's Papa England, Papa America, or USUK daddies, bring some stuff that shows off our boys as fathers and have fun! Remember, this will only be as great as you all make it!

The Groundwork aka, The Rules

This Rec Post will be centered around America, England or USUK. It can be any interpretation of those, but one of those should at least be a focus. It's ok if the rec as US/other or UK/other, but it's very important that USUK is endgame and any other pairings are plot devices. I know there are plenty of excellent works out there that have
our boys paired up with others, but this is a post of USUK and I'm going to work to keep it that way ;D
Bashing of anyone else's rec/opinion will not be tolerated. Just don't do it. Remember: this is a project for Love, not hate.
As much as we all love certain works and authors, this is meant to spread the Love as much as possible, which means double recc'ing is be kept to a minimum. Each rec will have it's own thread, and if you wish to express your love for a work, please gush to your heart's content in the comments! If, however, you do double rec, you must also rec something new as well, that way we spread the Love around as much as possible!
R-18 recs will be allowed in this rec post, however, PLEASE make sure you leave a title, rating, status (either WIP or finished) and author when you rec, and make sure you're rec does not have any r-18 material in it, just an outgoing link.
Give warnings and description of kinks/whatever when necessary, just like with anything else that is posted on the comm. What you love may be wonderful and others may enjoy, but everyone's got a different cup of tea and due warnings are necessary. There is a strict no bashing policy, so don't feel shy about posting whatever you love, whatever rating, but give appropriate warnings and caution regarding anything from kinks to triggers to other

The student witnesses a colourful reaction. Assuming all reactants are used up in the experiment, what would the end product be that is created from this reaction? (Answer: Two idiots, very slowly, very surely, just maybe realising that they might be falling in love.) Teacher!AU.

Reason: It's incredibly refreshing to see a US/UK AU fic where they don't immediately fall into each others' arms/beds, and while the impatient rabid USUK fan in me can't wait to see that happen in this fic, it's still wonderful to see how Alfred and Arthur slowly build a friendship and eventual mutual attraction here. Plus, nearly everyone in Hetalia manages to make an appearance at some point in the story so far, and they're all very much IC.

Reason: I like my Cardsverse with plot other than "Arthur and Al are forced to marry each other even though they hate each other in the beginning," and this was a fun read with a surprising yet satisfying ending.

Summary: The Japanese summary doesn't really tell you anything about the story itself, so I'll take the liberty of poorly summarizing it myself. College sophomore astronomy student Alfred F. Jones moves into a new apartment with his trusty feline sidekick Arthur. Alfred has nothing in common with his new next-door neighbor, best-selling British mystery novelist Arthur Kirkland, except for the fact that they're both cat owners - in Arthur's case, he owns an ever-hungry, hero-like cat by the name of Alfred. Eventually, Arthur and Alfred (humans) grow closer together thanks to their cats.
Warnings: R-15 rating, AU
Status: Complete
Reason: This is one of the most popular US/UK Japanese novels on Pixiv if bookmarks are any indication, and with good reason - the characters are all IC (Francis and Matthew also make an appearance - Francis is Arthur's childhood friend and restaurant owner, while Matt is Alfred's twin brother, a literature major who is a fan of Arthur's work) and the story is incredibly cute and fluffy but manages to pull on your heartstrings at just the right moments. Plus, it's cool to see Alfred and Arthur as the owners of Englandcat and Americat instead of the other way around :D

Title: The Plaza, 2005

Summary: N.Y.のあるホテルのバーでの米英のお話です。米の栄光の百年と、喪失についてのお話。[A US/UK story that takes place in a bar in NY. A story regarding America's hundred years of glory and a story about loss.]

Reason: sawa's prose is GORGEOUS. Like, professional Japanese novelist-level stunningly gorgeous. Even her twitter updates tend to be written in beautiful, proper language. I'd recommend like, every single story she's ever written but this one in particular stands out because it takes place in the Oak Bar at the Plaza Hotel (which, as a native New Yorker and hotel administration major, is a subject dear to my heart). US and UK have a drink there the night before the hotel closed for renovations in 2005 (which was a Very Big Deal back in the day so Google it if you're too young to remember) and it's just so incredibly rare to see US being nostalgic and reflective on his economic history in Japanese fanfiction. ♥

Status: WIP
Reason: While I usually recommend stories because the writing is top-notch and/or the story is riveting... this series of shorts is not one of those stories. The prose isn't something to write home about (although it does have its humorous moments and cute fluffy moments) and prostitute AUs are a dime a dozen in both J-fen and W-fen, but this one stands out to me because there is no angsty back-story as to why Alfred is a prostitute. In fact, he's just a normal college student who needed a part time job one day and realized he could make some good money in the call girl business (or in his case, call-boy business: he exclusively caters to male clients who prefer to bottom); throughout the story, he treats his occupation strictly as a business and nothing more or less. Arthur requests his services one night but after it's clear that Arthur has never bottomed before, Alfred refuses to do the deed and instead strikes up a friendship with Arthur, and their subsequent "sessions" turn out to be just talking and eating scones together. By the end of the second story it's clear that the two are starting to develop feelings for each other (Arthur being more obvious and aware of his feelings than Alfred, of course) so it'll be interesting to see if the both of them maintain the current nonchalance towards Al's occupation or not.

Wow. Japanese fic rec. I don't think I've ever seen this before in the comm. Unfortunately, my Japanese reading level is terrible and I don't think copying-and-pasting-into-an-online-dictionary would do much justice to the original content. But nice to know these stories exist. I wish I could read The Plaza. I have a soft sport for contemplative and nostalgic America. ♥

Speaking of Father's Day, this fandom needs more fic with fatherly!England.

Seconding everything! It's a pity I didn't see Shades of Spades sooner, that fic deserves some more love! Oh, and Japanese fic recs! Oh man, I wish I could read these, they sound really interesting. I'd ask if they could be translated, but I guess finding English equivalents to some Japanese words would be really hard, won't it? Okay, time to start learning Japanese!

Reason: It incorporates the lyrics of "God Save the Queen" and "The Star Spangled Banner" into a video that has some really nice models and visual planning.
Warnings/notes: None, I think. England dances with a skeleton at one point.

I'd like to rec this MEP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaKICMVZrC8) called 'Meeting for the First Time'. It's sort of a run through of America and England's history from when America was a bitty colony up till their relationship now, and it's really nicely edited and illustrates how America and England respectively bring the best and worst out of each other and their tumultuous relationship.
