FST - You Put My Shine To Shame - UKxUS

Here's the second and final side to my FST, Shining Dragons and Sugar-Free Air. Enjoy!

Title: You Put My Shine to Shame
Author/Artist:[livejournal.com profile] elapsedspiral

Characters: England/USA
Warnings: I'm fairly sure it's cuss-free, but I'll say PG warning for any vaguely rude themes
Note: See under the cut

Here’s the second side to my earlier FST “Shining Dragons and Sugar-Free Air”. This one is more centred around England before America’s Independence and just after too. Hope you enjoy. As I mentioned before, I’m a brand-new fan so the characterisation may be a bit off. The zip contains the tracks and covers. Please note “Paint It, Black” may come up as “Ruby Tuesday” in WMP – the file names all seem jumbled on that album.

Jolly Roger – Adam and the Ants – Pirate!England

I haven’t read all of APH, so I don’t know if there actually is a Pirate!England reference, though I suppose he must have done some plundering to get that empire. From my limited knowledge of 18th century England, I’d imagine he actually found real pirates blumming annoying: Pitt the Younger passed a lot of policies trying to reduce piracy at that time. Whatever the case, Pirate!England is still brilliant.

“Hoist the Jolly Roger!
It's your money that we want
and your money we shall have!”

Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) – Eurythmics (UKxUS)

UK’s warning to Ambitious!Colonial America.

“I’ve travelled the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something.
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you.”

Take Me Out – Franz Ferdinand – (UKxUS)

American War of Independence.

“I'm just a cross-hair,
I'm just a shot, then we can die.
I know I won't be leaving here,
With you”

American English – Idlewild (UKxUS)

Colonial America becomes Independent. UK bitter, confused and in denial.

“Then you contract the American dream, you never look up once,
You’ve contracted American dreams, you never look up once,
so don’t look up”

Paint It, Black – The Rolling Stones – (UKxUS)

UK’s empire crumbling. Bitter and low about the loss of the US.

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you”

English Summer Rain – Placebo –
UK

A bit of pathetic fallacy.

“Always stays the same, nothing ever changes,

English summer rain, seems to last for ages”

Viva  La Vida – Coldplay – UK

Totally the wrong country/moment in history but captures the mood of UK as he declines in power and presence on the world stage.

“I used to rule the world,
Seas would rise when I gave the word,
Now in the morning I sweep alone,
Sweep the streets I used to own”

The Boy Done Wrong Again – Belle and Sebastian (UKxUS)

UK’s anger and melancholy towards the US and their awkward relations. I love this song for UKxUS.

The boy done wrong again,
Hang your head in shame and cry your life away,
Are you ok now?

On Saturday I was an angel shining fair,
You shone louder, longer,
You put my shine to shame,
Put me to shame now

What is it I must do to pay for all my crimes?
What is it I must do?
I would do it all the time,
Do it all the time now
