Good! -hugs back- :D
It made me feel better too. ^^

Exactly, and people don't seem to realize that the special relationship revolves around a lot more than just politics. The people themselves, are what make this 'special relationship' real. =]

I have to disagree.

I don't believe that important political decisions were made under the pressure of the words 'special relationship'.
See, the thing about the relationship is that it's beneficial to both nations. We share culture, values, ideology among other things, and to think that the UK would have made different decisions like say, siding with Russia in the Cold War, is a little bit far-fetched. The UK knows where its best interests are, and that was with America.
Whether the 'special relationship' had ever been coined, the UK still would have stood along side us for the fact that it was beneficial, and that we truly got along and understood each other much more than other countries. We are similar, therefore we stand together, term or no term for the relationship.

Just my two cents. =]

There are many special relationships around the world, though. :) Both the US and the UK have relationships with other countries that have been described as "special" by some (the US with Israel, the UK with Canada, etc). It's basically just something to use in diplomacy and political science to emphasize the bonds (diplomatic, economic, cultural, etc.) between two nations. It's not an official agreement like the Entente Cordiale or other ententes, alliances and treaties of "We're Gonna Be Friends, This Time For Sure! (Until Something Happens)," there's no "hereby we declare our relationship Special" (except for Churchill, because, yeah). It's just something to throw around to emphasize how very good friends the two countries are.

Of course when it coems to the US and Britain it has a special (hur hur) meaning that is meant to describe their relationship, but basically it's really just two words that only have sentimental/diplomatic value.

Heads up, please refrain from posting any comments that could be construed as bashing other ships in the future. Calling them gag-worthy does fall under that. Thank you! ♥

IT IS ABOUT FUCKING TIME, ENGLAND. WAY TO FINALLY GROW SOME BALLS THERE.

Seriously, I ship USUK like crazy, but in reality? It's a little less like BFF tsunderes sekritly in rabu rabu and more like George McFly constantly being forced to do Biff's homework while Biff keeps trying to rape his girlfriend (that would be you, Canada). WHERE IS MARTY, I ASK YOU.

I can't just help but agree with you. [the obsession, I mean.]

But to me, because I'm half British and half American, it sometimes feel like my parents just had a break-up/divorce thingy.

My mom's sort of, well, I think she is, upset about it.
